Roger's Aquatics Pages

Who is this Roger Bloke Anyway?

I'm Roger Sleet (Hence the URL), and I live in Sussex, England. I've been keeping fish since.....
actually I can't remember.

My father kept fish for years and was Chairman of the local Aquarium Society in the Early 60's, and he had encouraged me to take an interest. So I had goldfish and native fish such as sticklebacks and the like. When my father had to give up the fish due to ill health I took over the tropicals as well. That would have been about 1969 - I was certainly going to the Local Aquarium Society in May 1969 - I know I still have the programme!

Keeping fish lead to a Biology degree. Inevitably I ended up specialising in Biochemical Genetics and finally working in Computers - that is how life goes. The love of fish never left and I still keep them, I currently have 20 tanks ranging in size from small up to 300 UK Gallon - 6' x 2' x 2' (or 650l - 180cm x 60cm x 60cm if you think metric). Mostly I keep Cichlids, South Americans plus a tank of Malawi Haplocromines, with a sideline in Catfish. My oldest fish is an Orinocodoras eigenmanni - I got him in 1986, his exact age is uncertain as he was quite big when I got him.

I'm lucky enough to have my own fish room, which is about 7' by 11' and is built into the Garage (Does ANYONE actually put their car in the garage). It is still under construction - details of how I put it together.

I currently have 13 tanks set up. The really big tanks (650l and 550l) are not in place as of March 2007.
